Microphilox, seleccionado por la Comisión Europea como uno de los mejores proyectos ‘LIFE Medio Ambiente’

28/04/2010

26th March 2010

The innovative Microphilox project developed by Cespa, has been selected by the European Commission as one of the best ‘LIFE Medio Ambiente’ projects of 57 that finished in 2009. The awards ceremony will be held next 2nd June in Brussels during the so-called Green Week.

The project, which involved the installation of the first microturbine in Spain working with biogas from a controlled tank, was developed in collaboration with the Austrian Profactor technological centre and the Institut Químic de Sarriá y Peinusa.

Apart from the microturbines used to recover the energy contents of biogas, a potential source of energy, a new system has been studied within the framework of this action for the biological elimination of SH2 from dump biogas, whose corrosive nature is harmful for combustion plants, as are siloxanes which cause important mechanical damage.

Finally, a new procedure for taking samples and analysing siloxanes in biogas has been developed.

The technical quality of this initiative has made it receive several awards, both at national and international level, such as the Energy Globe Award 2007 for Spain, the 9th Medio Ambiente Garrigues-Expansión and the Bioenergía Plata 2008 award.

The LIFE Programme

LIFE is one of the financial instruments of the European Union to support projects related to the preservation of natural habitats and the environment. This is the second LIFE aid for Cespa, the first one being awarded in 2008 for the leaching treatment project called Clonic.
